ENJOY YOUR WEB SITE...JUST FINISHED N.J.'S POETRY...REALLY DOES BRING
BACK GREAT MEMORIES.... * Thanks so much for the memories, Marvin. I enjoyed seeing
all those remedies that were so comforting and some not so comforting
when I was a child. Your website is so enjoyable. I look forward to
each new issue. As you know, I am one of your cousins that you admitted
to having in Virginia in the Feb-March issue. As a child growing up
in Cofield, NC, I used to think of Virginia as some far off place that
you could go to, to get things that you couldn’t get in Hertford
County. Now I live here, and I must admit Virginia has been good to
me. Both of my daughters were born and raised here, except for the four
years we lived in MS. (We love you, Mississippi!) My heart still belongs
in NC, though because that is where I had a very happy childhood. I
hope you continue entertaining us with your stories and pictures of
the people, past and present, that are from this beautiful area of the
world. * |

* I was brought to tears when I saw the pictures of Susan
Robbins and others. It brought back such memories of my childhood days
and of those who are no longer with us. * Your publications brings back a lot of memories. Keep
up the good work.
* what a marvelous site! i loved the beautiful poems, the reminiscences of cofield, the story of the mortgage monster, and all the poignant pictures of home - thank you for an uplifting website - a fan, valerie horne sumner, petaluma, California * My contact came about while doing research on my family
tree and it branched back to the Nichols family through my greatgrandmother
Mary Emeline Nichols Carney. Her father was Nial Nichols. Nial was descended
from Wright Nichols and Levinia Dunning Nichols who lived in Bertie
Co. All this led me to my cousin Barbara Nichols Mulder who lives in
Conway. Barbara and I have become great e-mail friends and she has supplied
me with much information about my Nichols family history. She introduced
me to the Poor Town News and now the roanoke-chowan publication. I look
fwd to every issue. I have little to offer on my greatgrandmother, Mary
Emeline Nichols Carner, other than she began her life in Bertie Co and
ended it and is buried in Crittenden Co, KY. She was married to James
Carner in Crittenden Co, KY, and although I have no proof, I suspect
that he too hailed from Bertie. I do have certification of his service
in the militia in Crittendon Co, KY.
