Thanks Marvin-- I just love to hear anything about home. Keep up the good work. [To] Harriet Henderson-- I think your mother and my mother were very close.(Carolise Jones) deceased 25 Dec 04 . Royal V. Jones (Dwight) [See Harriet's letter from the June edition] * I carried The Suffolk News Herald in '44 and '45. Please
keep me on your "list"... By the way, there was a community
close to Murfreesboro that I recall. I can't recall the spelling 'tho.
Perhaps, phonetically "Po-ti-ca-ci" is close. I can't imagine
anyone wanting to read what I might wish to share. Thanks anyway. There's
a lot of history in those parts. Much of it goes back to the Revolutionary
War and before. The Chowan River played a major roll. My grandfather,
on my father's side, was from Ahoskie. I gave up canoeing at about age 70. It was a wonderful
way to the see the world, wooded areas, birds, fish, and many snakes
in Alabama. Let me be so bold as to suggest a book to read if you have
not already done so. THE FABULOUS HISTORY of the DISMAL SWAMP COMPANY
by CHARLES ROYSTER (well researched and as a boy, I have been to several
places cited in the book.) George Washington etc,.was there also with
a white oak shingle business .Major hemp business also. *

* Just wanted to tell again how much I enjoyed
your website. The old medicines were especially memorable - if it tasted
bad, it worked wonders. Murfreesboro [NOTE: Please visit the Gift Shop of the Murfreesboro Historical Sociey. I frequented the pretty place, and there's a lot to see. All of their items make fine gifts to yourself and others. My sister, Laverne, and I bought a few books!] * Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I have recently changed some things at my own website and the link for the Roxobel webpage has changed.
