OUR SNAKES

I have my snake stories and so do you. Many of us despise and fear them, but do you really know of many folks that have been bitten by one? My mother had a great fear of them, although that didn't stop her from shooting at one with the Winchester.

Now rats, mice and our cute little birdies have more to fear from snakes than us.

Our roads have become busier in the past couple of decades and Mr. Goodyear has flattened so many cats that they rarely hang around outside our houses anymore. So, we still need the blacksnakes to keep those mousies down.

Oh, I don't particularly like snakes. I just don't shoot them anymore. If you have a snake story to share, please send it to roanoke-chowan.com.

A 1978 photograph that a mother - mine - could despise. That's me, while on assignment at a workshop to help people overcome their fear of snakes.
