5am
Early in the morning I see the stars in the trees
Twinkling and sparkling in the cool a.m. breeze.
Scent of freshly cut grass still hangs heavily in the air
A cat licks and purrs under a bush without a care.
Dove and sparrows start singing to announce the coming dawn
Pull the pine curtains, sun rises, soft as the fur of a fawn.
Bathing my land with her warm and gentle rays
So begins the first of my many summer days.

A
Walk down the road...........
A river of red poppies
Flows from the curb to the trees
Strings of lavender wildflowers run
Like the broken veins back of my knees
Golden drops of sunshine
Along the side of the road
Queen Anne’s lace spread out
Gracefully, covering a sleeping toad
White and yellow daisies smiling
Up at me, their faces to the sky
Clover tops and morning dews
Gleam brightly as I pass by.
Sparrows singing a melody
Bluejays fighting in the grass
Robins play over my head
Cardinals praying like they are having mass.
What a wonderful feeling it has
This path that I chose
I think I’ll spend the rest of my life
Just walking down this road.
